Sunstar Objectives & Equity Statement
The club is affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) and is run within
its guidelines. We have an open constitution and welcome members from all
walks of life. The club aims to uphold and support the beliefs and rules of
the BSAC, supplying sport diving and quality training within the club system.
We endeavour to train at a pace dictated by the needs and ability of our
members. The club plans regular open water training sessions and more
adventurous expeditions at all levels of experience.
The club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all
aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts as far
as is practicable the following Sports England definition of sports equity:
- Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of
access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is
about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes
equally accessible to everyone in society.
- The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every
person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport,
regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief,
sexuality or social/economic status.
- The club is committed to everyone having the right to
enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation,
harassment and abuse.
- All club members have a responsibility to oppose
discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.
- The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory
behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures.
However due to the nature of the sport and the rules of our
governing body there are a number of pre-conditions that have to be met by
diving members:
- They must be aged 14 years or over.
- They must be reasonably fit and able to swim.
- They must be medically fit to dive. (Certain medical
conditions prevent people from partaking in Scuba diving).
- Before being able to go on diving trips they must have
undergone appropriate training and gained a recognised BSAC diving
qualification. The qualification (Ocean Diver, Sports Diver, Diver Leader
etc) must be appropriate for the type of diving anticipated on the trip.
